Gunmen abduct Anglican cleric, family in Ondo, demand N75m ransom

An Anglican priest, Cannon Olowolagba, his wife and his children have been abducted by gunmen

Confirming this on Saturday, the Ondo State Security Network Agency codenamed as Amotekun confirmed that the kidnapping took place along Ise Akoko-Iboropa road in Akoko North-East Local Government Area of Ondo State.

Community sources say the victims were travelling in a car last Sunday when they were waylaid by the hoodlums who forced them of the road and into the bush.

They have remained unseen since then.

Meanwhile, the Bishop of Akoko Anglican Diocese, Babajide Bada confirmed on Saturday that the abductors are demanding a ransom of N75million.

According to the cleric, the event happened happened on Sunday between 4 pm and 5:30 pm, as the Reverend Olowolagba was travelling from Ipesi with his wife, Mrs Olowolagba, and their 16-year-old daughter, Goodness Olowolagba, a varsity student on holiday, as well as a younger girl staying with them.

The Bishop further explained that the bandits called to ask for a ransom of N10 million but suddenly increased it to N75million.

Meanwhile, the Commander of the Amotekun Corps in the state, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye said efforts were ongoing to get the victims rescued.

Adeleye said Amotekun men were working with other security agencies to ensure the victims are rescued.
